On 7 January 2016, 121 homes were destroyed in Yarloop by a massive bushfire. Over a seven minute period, the fire also burned the historic timber workshops, factories, old churches, the old hospital, shops, the hotel, fire station and a large proportion of the school. Local politician Murray Cowper, observing soon afterwards that the town now looked “very surreal”,said: “This could well be the end of the town.” Those visiting the town after the fire described the level of destruction as “apocalyptic”.
Not long afterwards, Shutterguard Roller Shutters was invited to Yarloop to meet with Ron Sackville, president of the Yarloop Bowling Club. With so much of the town’s infrastructure destroyed the Club decided that they could support the local community by changing the Yarloop Bowling Club into the Yarloop Community Club. So the 50 or so locals that were left there could enjoy it. The installation of Roller Shutters would help with the new functionality.
Previously as a Bowling Club Only Members could use the Club but by changing it to the Yarloop Community Club it meant All of the residents could have access improving the Community Spirit.
Sbutterguard Roller Shutters designed the shutters to have removable Tracks so that when the shutters were up there would be No Tracks ( Mullions) to creates an open look.
We are very proud to have been involved in helping Yarloop as wish them all the best for the rebuild ahead.
If you are in the neighbourhood, please drop in spend a little money in the Club and town. Every little bit helps.
